Cast to Device may not work in Windows 10 for a variety reasons. These could include Network Discovery and Media Streaming not being turned on on your computer, or corrupted network drivers.
These methods should help you fix the problem.
1. Update Network Driver
To ensure that your problem is not caused by corrupt or outdated network drivers, you should first update the Network Drivers.
1. Right-click the Start button, and click Device Manager.
2 Expand the Device Manager screen > Right-click Wireless Adapter, and then click on the Update Driver Software option.
3. Next, choose Search Automatically to update your driver software.
Windows will automatically update your computer if there are any updates available. After the process is complete, check if Cast to Device is currently working on your computer.
2. Turn On Network Discovery
Cast Media will not work if the Network isn’t visible from your computer.
1. Scroll down to the Network and Sharing Center.
2. Next, click on the Change Advanced Sharing Settings option.
3. Go to Advanced Sharing Settings and select Turn ON Network Discovery and Turn On File and Printer Sharing Options. Click on the Save Changes button.
Network Discovery is a feature that makes your computer visible to other devices in the network. It also allows you to see other devices within the network.
Once you have enabled Network discovery, check if Cast to Device works on your computer.
3. Allow Media Streaming
1. Scroll down to the Network and Sharing Center.
2. Next, click Media Streaming Options.
3. Next, click on Turn ON media streaming.
4. Next, check that your device is visible over the local network. Click OK to allow media sharing.
Now restart your computer to get Cast to work on your computer.
4. Allow Required Media Services
When you run optimization tools on your computer, certain Media services that are required to function properly in Cast to Media function may be disabled.
1. Right click on the Start button and then click on Run.
2. Open the Run command window and type Services.msc. Click on OK.
3. Check the Services screen to ensure that the following services are active.
- DNS Client Automatically
- Function Discovery Resource Publication Manual
- SSDP Discovery – Manual (Used By XBOX
- Manual UPnP Device host
Double-click on any service that isn’t running and click on Start.
5. Keep checking for updates
You must ensure that your computer has the latest Windows Updates.
Select Windows Update from the left pane. Click on the Check for Updates button in the right-pane. button.
Windows will automatically install any updates that are available on your computer.
